Audience and Genre.

we have been trying to come up with an over all theme or Genre for our film. We Have assessed several genres, like horror, thriller, drama, adventure and a few more. We have finally settled on Crime Drama. We chose this, as we built the story around our characters passed experiences, and how they will effect him through out the film. His passed life was one of crime, and its all about how he tries to escape it, but he cant, and his previous life comes back to haunt him.

As for Audience, we feel that this film would suit the kind of audience that is looking for a deep plot, and a lot of character development, as at the beginning of the film, you are meant to know very little about the character and his past, and as the film develops, you learn more. This also comes with part of the genre, as a good amount of crime dramas use more in depth stories, which contribute to the overall style of the film.

We also feel out film would be under the 15 age rating, as our film has elements of crime throughout the film, and the plot maybe to detailed for someone under this age bracket to grasp properly. There is also scenes of violence deeper into the film, which would be unsuitable to younger audiences. Crime dramas usually never fall under this age bracket, as a good amount of them contain scenes of violence, drug use and other themes like this. Most tv crime dramas are shown after 9:00 or the watershed, so although they don t have a direct age, the time they are shown usually dictates who it is suitable.

Music Change.

While I was away on friday, steve decided it would we best if we change the music we used in our film.
The original track was Onra = Hard Times, which although is a good track, it didn't quite fit our film as well as it should, and we were told this by our teachers.
Steve changed to a track Called Finding the Balance, which is a piece of royalty free music, which means we dont have to ask for permission from the artist.

re-shooting done

We managed successfully to get all the shots we needed to finish our film.

Steve unfortunately couldn't join me, so i took it upon my self to go out and get the necessary shots, with the help of my brother.

It went really well, and as i said, we got the shots we needed. Most of the shots we needed were of the 2nd station and the end scene which was the character coming to the house, knocking on the door then entering, which is where the film ends.

I also managed to get some good close ups inside the car, and experiment more with different methods and shots.

Re-Shoots

We got the main body of our filming done a few weeks ago. However, there are still a few clips we are yet to get (i.e close ups, airport scene etc).

We plan on going back out to get the last few clips this Sunday (24th of February), however the weather we went out in last time was some what snowier than it currently is, so we will have to adapt the way we film it to try make the difference in conditions less obvious.

We are going back to temple meads to get our close ups of the character on the train, we will than find a substitute for bristol airport, as we are not aloud to film there (i know right). we also need other small close ups, to boost our marks, and fill in the gaps in the film.

Music

We have been searching for the past few lessons for the perfect music for our film.

We were ideally looking for something that had a slow beat, and a low tempo, so it gets across the loneliness factor in out film, as the character is on his own on his travels, and we really wanted to get that across with the music.

after spending a long time searching on various websites, we ended up choosing a track by an artist called Onra = Hard Times. This track has the perfect beat, speed and tempo, and fits really well into our film. I have used his music in the past, I used it recently in a bmx web edit me and a few friends made outside of school, so his music fits all kinds of genre of film types, and is really diverse.

Filming part 1

Last weekend (sunday the 20th of January) we finished are first part of filming for our opening.
It went a lot better than we expected, even though weather wasn't exactly on our side, what with the snow and ice, but shooting went well.
However, there are a number of shot that we still are yet to shoot, the airport scene we couldn't shoot due to the weather and complications with the airport as i put in an earlier post.
We also planned to get some interior shots of the Yatton train, but it turned out busier than we thought it would for a sunday train to Yatton.
Having said that our short is coming along well, and what we did get on the day fits perfectly with what we had planned.

Filming planes...

This is where we plan to get our establishing shot of a plane landing. There is a small round that goes directly behind the airport runway, which should be the perfect place to get our establishing shot, and hopefully we can get some good shots that are usable.

Shot's and Scene's

Scene 1:
Location: Bristol International Airport (however, recent events means we may not be able to use the airport)
Props Used: Suitcase, Rucksack
Number Of Shots: 3
Date Filmed:

Shot 1:
Shot 1 begins with a short clip of a plane approaching and landing at Bristol airport. The small shot should only last up to 10 seconds and will not feature the main character. The main shot will be featuring on the plane landing and the camera will always be focused on the plane. The main shot used will be the medium-close up shot.

Shot 2:
Shot 2 begins with the camera being focused at the main entrance of the airport. The main character is then revealed entering from the right hand side before the character then walks through the entrance and just past the camera  where the shot will end. The camera stays stationary for this entire shot, so the whole time the camera is zoomed out focused on the entrance.

Shot 3:
Shot 3 will show the main character entering a vehicle before it then drives off out of shot. The camera is intended to be in the same spot as shot 2 but reversed so you can see the car park of the airport and the car. The camera will once again be mainly focused on the character as it approaches the car and enters it. When the car begins to drive off the camera will still be focused in the same position and the scene will end once the car has driven off shot. The character will be wearing the same props as shot 2. No effects will be added to the shot and zoom will not be included in the scene. The vehicle is intended to be a Taxi but may change depending on what is available on the day of filming. The character will enter some sort of vehicle during the shot.

Scene 2:
Location: Bristol Temple Meads Station
Props Used: Suitcase, Rucksack
Number Of Shots: 3
Date Filmed:

Shot 1:
The opening shot of the scene begins with the camera focused on the platform near some stairs. The main character then emerges from the stairs in the middle of a crowd full of people. Throughout the shot though you can still see and make out who the main character is despite the amount of people around him. The main character will once again be wearing a rucksack and holding a suitcase. The camera will be set directly in front of the stairs on the platform and when the character reaches the top of the stairs the character then beings to walk to the left of the shot where the camera will then follow the character for a short amount of time. The shot will then end with the character moving out of shot completely.

Shot 2:
This shot focuses on the vehicle which the character will be entering. The camera will be facing directly towards the stationary train and the character will move into shot before walking towards the doors of the train. Just before the character enters the train the shot will end and move onto shot 3 of the scene. No effects will be used in the shot and zoom will also not be used in the shot. Once again we hope to have a crowd of people around the character and he enters the train but we cannot guarantee this during the shot so the shot may or may not feature a crowd of people around the main character. If a crowd is included then the main character will still stand out from the crowd and it will be known to the viewers during the shot.

Shot 3:
The final shot will be a short close up shot of the character entering the train from a side-ways position. The camera will be side on with the train on the edge of the platform and will be looking towards the entrance which the main character will be entering. The shot will be a freeze frame shot as the character enters the train. You will not get a full view of the character. The main part of the character you will see is the characters legs and shoes and he walks onto the train. As soon as the character is out of shot the shot and scene will end.

Scene 3:
Location: Yatton Train Station
Props Used: Rucksack, Suitcase
Number Of Shots: 4
Date Filmed:

Shot 1:
The opening shot will feature a train approaching the station with the character intended to be aboard. You will not see the character during the shot, only the train approaching the station and the shot will end just as the train reaches the station. The shot used will be a establishing shot of the area so the viewers can clearly see the station and the train approaching the station. This will give viewers an idea of where the location is and where the main character is. As said before the main character will not be featured in this shot.

Shot 2:
Shot 2 is a normal shot mainly focused on the train in the station. The camera will be set in front of the train and in front of the doors where the main character will appear from. Once the character has walked onto the platform the character will then continue to walk past the camera out of shot. This is where the shot will end. The main character is still holding the suitcase and rucksack as he exits the train and walks past the camera. The camera will not move at all during the shot and the camera will be focused on the train at all times during the shot. Even though the camera is focused on the train, the viewers should still be able to see the main character.

Shot 3:
This shot shows the character walking into the shot and walking around and outside the station and into the car park. The camera will be placed in the same place as in shot 2 but reversed once again so it shows the exit of the station. The character walks onto shot from behind the camera and walks towards the exit before heading around the corner into the car park. The camera will be focused on the character as soon as the character walks into shot and then walks around the corner. As soon as the character walks around the corner the camera will stop focusing on the character and the shot will end.

Shot 4:
The final shot shows the character walking towards a vehicle and getting in the vehicle before it then drives around and out of shot. The camera will once again be focused on the main character as he walks towards the car and enters it and as the car beings to move the camera will begin focusing on that instead. The camera will be placed towards the exit of the where the car is going to go. Once the car just passes the camera, the camera will stop focusing on the car and will just be left facing the backdrop behind where the car went past.

Scene 4:
Location: Portishead
Props Used: Rucksack, suitcase
Number Of Shots: 3
Date Filmed:

Shot 1:
The first shot begins with the camera being focused on the main house which the character will eventually walk to. As the camera is still focused on the house. The vehicle in scene 3 will come into shot and stop just outside where the main house is as the camera is still focused on the house. The main idea of this shot is to show the viewers the main house in the scene. It will show viewers the main object of the scene but the main character will not focus in this shot.

Shot 2:
The second is a extreme close up of the side of the car as the character opens the door and leaves the car. The camera will be focused mainly on the bottom of the car as the main character exits the car. In this shot you will only see the characters feet and the bottom of the car door as it is opened and closed. Once the character has got out of the camera and shut the door, the shot will end. The characters legs will be out of shot before the shot ends. This shot is mainly used to hide the characters identity and not show the house which the  character will be looking at.

Shot 3:
The final shot will show the car leaving the scene and the camera then focusing on the character who is stood still looking at the house which was focused on in shot 1. The camera begins looking at the car before the car then leaves the scene. Before the car leaves you cannot see the main character at all as the car takes up the whole shot. The idea of this shot again is to promote the importance of the house and the main character who is looking towards the house. The character once again is holding a suitcase and wearing a rucksack as the camera is then focused on the main character.

(I should mention that since actually filming it, we changed a lot from this initial shot list)

Bristol airport rejection!

Today we got a reply from Bristol International Airport about our inquiry about using the outside of the airport for our project. Unfortunately, this is the response we got...

Hi Steve

Thank you for your email received via the website requesting permission to film at the airport on Sunday 20 January 2013.

Unfortunately we are unable to assist, due to security reasons it is not possible to allow ad-hoc filming as you request anywhere on the airport, without myself being present and media passes issued for the filming crew/photographers.    It is also due to resources available, as you can appreciate we receive large volumes of requests similar to yours, seven days a week, twenty four hours a day and your project does not meet a news item requirement or business need.

Thank you for your interest in Bristol Airport and good luck with your filming project.

Kind regards

Jacqui

We do however have several backups, as we anticipated this, as bristol airport are tight on security, even though we are only filming the outside.

Bristol airport

We have planned to use Bristol international Airport for some time, and today we emailed them, to ask permission for us to use the location for our first scene of our film, which is titled What Happens next.
This is the email we sent...

Hello Sir or Madam

We are 2 AS level media students, and are currently looking to film our project on Sunday the 20th (next Sunday).
We would like bristol airport to be one of our locations for our film, as it is a travel themed project.
I am emialing to ask permission for us to film one of our scenes at the airport, as it is perfect for the type of film we are doing. we would be ariving around 12:30, and will only be there for around an hour, and won't interfere with anything important.

Cant wait to hear from you.

locations

Locations are a key part of just about every film, but a lot of intros don't rely massively on specific locations, as the intro is just plain credits maybe with some animation. This obviously isn't always the case, a lot of
films do rely on location for their opening sequences.

A travel theme relays massively on the locations used, as the whole sequence is going from key locations. Bristol airport is where we plan to start, as we want our character to seem like hes moving from some where far. we plan to attempt to get a shot of a plane landing, as if the character is on that plane, however this could be difficult to do, as bristol airport is quite closed off.

we than want him to go to bristol train station, which a great location to film at, as bristol train station is a great building, and has a lot of history to it, plus it will be much easier to film in than the airport.
We than want to go to Yatton train station, which is where the main character will get off from the train from bristol. Yatton is close to Portishead, which is where we want to end the intro.
